OBJECTIVE: An electron microscopy (EM) facility has been developed to provide the ability to examine a variety of specimens by scanning and/or transmission electron microscopy. This facility is designed to aid the research of both faculty and students of Rutgers University, as well as the work of members of the research community outside of the University. The EM facility has particular expertise with regard to the study of biological specimens; other types of specimens, however, will also be examined.

LOCATION: The electron microscopy facility is located in the Food Science building near the corner of Dudley and College Farm Roads (65 Dudley Rd.) on the Cook Campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

ON SITE EQUIPMENT: Major pieces of equipment presently available for use in the EM facility include: (1) JEOL 1230 transmission electron microscope; (2) Amray 1840 scanning electron microscope with PGT Imix x-ray detector and analyzer; (3) JEOL JSM 35C scanning electron microscope with EDAX x-ray detector and analyzer; (4) Reichert and Sorvall ultramicrotomes; (5) Balzers sputter coater; (6) Ladd critical point dryer; (7) Denton vacuum evaporator; (8) LKB knife makers; (9) various diamond knives, as well as other miscellaneous pieces of equipment.
