Acceptable Use Policy

Use of the Internet in the Rutgers University Department of Food Science is a privilege. The expectation is that all students, faculty and staff will adhere to Rutgers University and departmental policy at all times while using the Internet at 63 and 65 Dudley Road.

Internet and Networok Access

Computers and mobile devices connected to the Local Area Network (LAN) in 63 and 65 Dudley Road need to have a Rutgers private IP address. For information, contact Raul Sanchez. Individuals are not allowed to “guess” or pick likely IP address when connecting a device to the LAN. Individuals violating this policy may be barred from Internet access at the discretion of the Department Chair or other authorities within Rutgers University.

Students, faculty, staff, as well as sponsored guests, are able to use RUWireless for Internet access. Local and personal router are not permitted to conduct Rutgers' business. To replace your office/lab personal router with RutgersWireless Secure access contact Raul Sanchez.

Movies, Videos, TV shows, software and other content available on the Internet are protected by copyright laws. The unauthorized downloading or uploading of copyrighted content is a copyright infringement, even if not done for profit.

Illegal copying and distribution of copyrighted content are serious offences that carry the risk of substantial monetary damages and, in some cases, criminal prosecution.

Copyright infringement also violates Rutgers University policies governing acceptable use of campus network resources and could lead to serious disciplinary action. In short, Rutgers University wired or wireless network must not be used for downloading movies, TV shows or pirated software.

Furthermore, as per Rutgers University policy "Any member of our community found using information resources for unethical and unacceptable practices has violated this policy and is subject to disciplinary proceedings including suspension of system privileges, expulsion from school, termination of employment and/or legal action as may be appropriate”.
