Biography
Dr. Carman is a Rutgers University Board of Governors Professor, Distinguished Professor, Founding Director of the Rutgers Center for Lipid Research, Inaugural Fellow of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), and Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology. Honors and awards include the Avanti Award in Lipids-ASBMB, Supelco/Nicholas Pelick Research Award-American Oil Chemists Society, Faculty Mentor of the Year Award-Compact for Faculty Diversity, Chancellor’s Award Lectureship in Neuroscience-Louisiana State University School of Medicine, Journal of Lipid Research Lectureship Award, Selman A. Waksman Honorary Lectureship Award, Rutgers University Board of Trustees Award for Excellence in Research, and the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station Research Excellence Award. Service to the NIH includes two terms on the Physiological Chemistry Study Section and one term on the Biochemistry and Biophysics of Membranes Study Section. Editorial service includes Associate Editor of the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Associated Editor of the Journal of Lipid Research, Executive Editor of Biochimica et Biophysica Acta-Molecular and Cellular Biology of Lipids, and Executive Editor of Analytical Biochemistry. Service as a meeting chair/organizer include the Gordon Research Conference on Lipid Metabolism, Keystone Symposium on Lipid Second Messengers, FASEB Science Research Conference on Phospholipids and Cancer, ASBMB Annual Program Planning Committee, and the ASBMB Meetings Committee. On an international level, service is provided on the steering committees of the International Conference on the Bioscience of Lipids and the Yeast Lipid Conference.
