Graduate Scholarships
Several scholarships are awarded to our graduate students each year, some based upon recommendations of faculty and others based on competitive application.
I. SCHOLARSHIPS BASED UPON FACULTY RECOMENDATION (no application needed)
- KLEINMAN AWARD
The Albert Kleinman Fund in Food Science was established by The Kleinman Foundation, Inc. to provide financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Food Science with outstanding academic achievement.
- National Association of Flavors and Food-Ingredients Systems (NAFFS) Scholarship
These scholarships are available to entering SEBS juniors, seniors and graduate students majoring in Food Science and enrolled in the upcoming academic year. The scholarships are based on food industry interest or experience, achievement, character and financial need.
II. COMPETITIVE SCHOLARSHIPS
- EASTERN FROSTED FOODS ASSOCIATION
These scholarships are available to entering SEBS juniors, seniors and graduate students majoring in Food Science, Nutritional Science or Environmental and Business Economics and enrolled in the upcoming academic year. The scholarships are based on food industry interest or experience, achievement, character and financial need. For application information visit:

- INSTITUTE OF FOOD TECHNOLOGISTS
These awards are presented annually. They are very competitive in that applicants derive from universities throughout the US. Awards are based primarily on academic performance. For application information visit: http://www.ift.org/Knowledge-Center
- INSTITUTE OF FOOD TECHNOLOGISTS – Philadelphia Section

- NEW YORK INSTITUTE OF FOOD TECHNOLOGISTS
These awards are presented annually. Candidates must be active members of the NY IFT. A committee from this organization interviews applicants at the Department. For application information visit: http://www.ift.org/sections/nyift/
- Daun Family Endowed Graduate Student Prize
This prize is awarded to a graduate student enrolled in the Food Science Graduate Program with an interest in food science and technology that will contribute to improving the world food supply. The awardee is selected by the Chair of the Department of Food Science with advice from a Departmental Committee. Submission requirements and deadline date announced by the Department of Food Science.
- Carman Prize
The George M. Carman Prize in Lipids is an endowed prize established by Dr. Carman to encourage research and to provide financial assistance to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows/associates in SEBS. The prize is awarded for outstanding research achievement in the area of lipid biochemistry as evidenced by publication(s) in high-quality journals and academic merit. Submission requirements and deadline date announced by the Department of Food Science.
- Robert T. Rosen Memorial Award
This award is given to full time graduate student having a concentration in Nutraceutical Sciences. Awards are based on academic merit and financial need. The awardee is selected by the Director of the Center for Advanced Food Technology with advice from the Food Science Department Chair.
